Twitterpate Yorkies has been an established breeder of AKC Yorkshire Terriers for 14 years. We specialize in traditional and non-traditional colors, and our dogs are DNA’d through AKC. We have always strived to produce excellent examples of the breed. All of our dogs are bred for health, temperament, size, and color…in that order.

While we breed the traditional yorkie (black and tan), we also have a robust breeding program in exotic colors. These non-traditional colors are not really ”exotic”. They are simply recessive color genes specially bred to bring them forth, and stem from the various dogs originally used to create the Yorkshire Terrier. With the use of DNA Color testing, most of our dogs now carry all colors registrable with AKC.

Over the past 14 years, we have also been breeding certain characteristics into our dogs that we continue to strive for. We believe, like the AKC, that the yorkie should retain that jaunty, courageous attitude they were bred for originally. Yorkies are very intelligent, intuitive dogs and make excellent emotional support animals. For this reason, as well as personal preference, we prefer a more laidback personality, and breed accordingly for it. We also prefer a shorter stocky body, large eyes, and a shorter muzzle than seen in the showring. Our dogs tend to be smaller (3.5 to 5 lbs on average). While we do not breed for ”Tinys”, they do run in our lines, so we do have them available occasionally.
